Very happy about the outcome of this collaboration. This paper is the result of studies conducted both in the U.S. and Portugal. The research was led by Rob Outten, a former colleague of mine at ICS, who is now at Trinity College (Connecticut). The paper focuses on majority group members’ reactions to future demographic shifts and the role of status legitimacy. Results show that these individuals react negatively to a large decline of their proportion in the country’s population only (or more significantly) when they perceived their status as legitimate.
